Probabilistic assessment of footbridge response to single walkers

Abstract Among the load scenarios considered for serviceability assessment of human-induced footbridge vibration, is that transient action a single pedestrian or small group pedestrians. Although such stochastic due to variability gait parameters, available Codes and Guidelines all assume it deterministic equal coming from “worst ever” given footbridge. This approach sound an engineering point view but does not allow control probability failure. The present work deals with reliability-based procedure peak characteristic accelerations induced actions. Based on results obtained incorporating effects inter-subject parameters uncertainties in dynamic properties, design response spectrum proposed both vertical lateral vibrations. lends itself immediate Code implementation.
